No. It suffers from the same “ lifted ass syndrome ” as the BMW GT models. It looks well designed and built, but there ’ s just something off about that massive expanse of sheet metal over the C/D pillar area that doesn ’ t work for me. It gives it the same look as a minivan that ’ s been adapted for a mobility ramp. You look at it and say “ No, that ’ s not normal. ”

Anyone else find it a little odd that Honda killed the Crosstour a couple years ago, only to turn the Accord INTO the Crosstour, and now everyone is making these things?

I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing that we are getting these eggy “slopebacks” now rather than the liftback 4-door coupes we call fastback sedans. It’s old Panamera vs new Panamera. There’s a legitimate bodystyle difference that’s being underplayed.

The back of the Elantra.....is fugly....

Should we, as a collective, try to BREAK THE INTERNET not that we’re becoming popular?

On the other hand, I feel like the market is just slowly being warmed back up to proper wagons, but it may take another 10-15 years to materialize. Until then, we’ll get a bunch of these fugly, semi-useful Brundleflies.

That is an ugly hatchback. Atleast it looks good from the front 3/4. It also looks much better than the 2000-2006 hatchback ugly from every side. I have a 05 sedan and it looks okay when you can’t see the front of the car.

No, I’m not surprised. The Crosstour failed for two reasons:
Its incredible ugliness, and its price point.

The spirit behind the Crosstour was sound marketing - when it came out back in 2010 it was supposed to compete with the Venza, but the lifted unibody sedan writing was on the wall. The execution failed due to the average consumer not wanting a very pricey piece of fugliness.

But Joe/Jane Q CarAppliance wants to sit tall, and they want to ride comfy, and they want lots of space, but they don’t want a lamer wagon or a potlaching SUV. Here we are. Honda knows. Everyone knows now.

.... Now we know.

Which is odd to hear, since I see plenty of Crosstours around every day — far more than the Venza, for comparison (despite an otherwise equal number of Honda and Toyota cars around). I always thought the Crosstour was far stupider than the Venza, and far uglier, but I never really understood that part of the market — the people who buy near - $ 50k (loaded) 5 seat crossovers. Murano seems to hold on pretty well to this trend, though, despite being just a fancified $18k Altima.

It ’ s an interesting niche, for sure, but as a purist my personal car company would have just 3 - 5 vehicles with a lot more configurations of each. Virtually no cannibalization, since I think that ’ s the worst thing you can do while trying to chase a piece of the pie.

Crosstours depreciated magnificently as Honda killed them off. I should know, I own one, and they’re still going down. The price point between the Crosstour and the Subaru Outback are hugely different after 3 years of ownership. I think in the used market they are snapped up as the prices go south. I can’t speak for the Venza, but the Crosstour at 10-15k makes a lot more sense than the Crosstour at 30k. As a car, for anyone who wants to tote around 4-5 people in decent comfort while still pretending to drive an Accord and fold down the seats for Ikea once in a while, the Crosstour definitely does the job. You can get the same J series V6 that the Accord gets, too.

Looking in wikipedia indicates that as far as new sales goes, the Venza did a lot better than the Crosstour did, so at least in the new car market the general populace seems to have agreed with you.

I will say this about your suggested strategy - while I personally would agree, I think it banks on the assumption that people always act in their ideal self-interest and rationally make purchases and that’s not something that happens in my universe often.

Sorry to knock the Crosstour’s looks, there...I’ve got an Odyssey, which is one of the ugliest cars ever made, but DAT UTILITY! I have far more respect for someone buying a Crosstour because they want something better than a sedan, but not quite an SUV.

I’m honestly disappointed that they killed it, but I think when push came to shove, keeping the “pure Accord” nameplate made more sense. I’m pretty sure they had this strategy mapped out a few years ago, so it’s not like an on-the-fly decision. Crosstour got shafted, but look on the bright side — driving an orphan makes them a lot more rare and unique over time.

Sort of a related note, but Mazda6 beat almost everyone to the punch with their liftback, but nobody seemed to notice it next to the sedan.

I enjoy a Crosstour’s profile like I enjoy a pug’s bewildering face, or a fat kid falling facefirst into a cake. I have no reservations as to it having any kind of cosmetic charm. My nickname for the car is the “Frump Rump.”

The Crosstour was too expensive to ever sell well, and the Accord does most of what it does, so I’m not surprised it’s gone. Its final years, in typical Japanese form, tended to be the best. They even tried changing the name from “Accord Crosstour” to “Crosstour” hoping it would distract buyers, but in a rare case of customer awareness, the buyers figured it out.

And I am not sure why Mazda continues to lag in sales to the Nippon giants when they genuinely make good stuff, and tend to have the idea first.

Accord Crosstour, Pathfinder Armada, Camry Solara, Passat CC...a lot of times they just use an existing nameplate to help sell the new one before dropping it.

It seems to me that the SEO has been better as of late? I posted couple of weeks ago about the Iron Butt Rally and if you search “Iron Butt Rally” my little Oppo post is the second article that comes up.
